The startup philanthropy movement is spreading!
I’m excited to share that we launched a chapter of Startups Give Back in Sacramento, California.
The chapter will be led by Kristen Scheven, a native of Sacramento and a startup veteran. Scheven’s the former VP of Marketing at AngelHack and current head of marketing at a Sacramento based startup.
Sacramento’s thriving startup scene
There’s a tremendous amount of growth happening in Sacrament’s startup scene.
According to Comstock, former Mayor Kevin Johnson launched several initiatives to make Sacramento “the capital of entrepreneurship.” This includes establishing the Mayor’s Office for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and a $10 million Innovation and Growth Fund.
In Founder Academy’s 2016 Startup Report, respondents listed Sacramento’s strengths as a future startup hub:
- Expanding VC interest
- Co-working spaces
- Affordable
- Proximity to Silicon Valley
I, for one, am excited to see a new startup hub taking form.
It’s also fantastic to see a city’s government pushing an innovation agenda in their community by giving startups the resources they need to thrive.
Final thoughts
With Sacramento’s startup scene taking off, now’s the perfect time to rally companies in the area to make a difference in the community.
